About Sony QRIO
Sony QRIO (Quest for Curiosity) stood 58 cm tall, weighed 7 kg, with 38 DoF enabling running (fastest bipedal robot at 14 meters/minute, 2003), dancing, and acrobatics. Developed 2000-2006, QRIO featured advanced image/voice recognition, emotional expression, and adaptive learning. The robot could recognize faces, respond to voice commands, and develop personality through interaction. Despite impressive capabilities and viral marketing demonstrations, Sony discontinued QRIO 2006 as part of restructuring. QRIO's legacy influenced subsequent entertainment robots and demonstrated consumer robotics' challenges—high development costs versus unclear monetization paths.
