Surena IV
University of TehranIranian research humanoid advancing human-robot interaction capabilities
About Surena IV
Surena IV stands 170 cm tall, weighs 68 kg, with 43 degrees of freedom—improved dexterity over Surena III. The robot performs speech recognition, object detection, face tracking, and action imitation. Voice user interface supports speech-to-text and text-to-speech for real-time commands and feedback. Enhanced design employs topology optimization, custom actuators, and 3D printing for lighter, more compact construction. Hands grip objects of various shapes with precision. Surena IV exemplifies Iranian engineering prowess and commitment to robotics research despite sanctions challenges. Applications: human-robot collaboration research, industrial automation studies, public interaction scenarios. Development spanned four years with 50+ researchers led by Dr. Aghil Yousefi-Koma.
